Distance: 9.6 miles

Trailhead: Rock Creek Road Trailhead, approximately 1.5 miles south of Harry's Flat Campground

Trail Ends: Junction with Hogback Ridge Trail 268

Butte Cabin Creek Trail (224) takes you up to Quigg Peak Trail 1273. These are steep, rocky, difficult trails for both hikers and stock users. Butte Cabin Creek Trail has several difficult stock fords and Butte Cabin Ridge is a steep dry trail with very limited water available, if any is available at all. You can make a loop trail by coming back on Butte Cabin Ridge Trail 227 or out the Hogback Ridge Trail 268. Trail is not maintained in the winter.

  • Take Rock Creek Road, From I-90 east of Missoula. A mile and a half past Harry's Flat Campground you will arrive at the trailhead. Parking area is to the left.
