Wurtz Cabin is located 48 miles north of Columbia Falls along the Wild and Scenic North Fork of the Flathead River. The historic Wurtz Cabin was homesteaded by the Wurtz family beginning in 1913; they worked the land, hunted and raised livestock until they sold the property in 1964. The Forest Service acquired the land in 1990 and used it as a work center into the late 1900s. In 2003 the planning and restoration work began to add it to the cabin rental program. Wurtz Cabin has rustic accommodations including propane cook stove and lights, wood stove and vault toilet, water is not available bring your own. Wurtz's Cabin party size is twelve with two double beds, eight single beds. Please pack out what you brought including your garbage. Grizzly bears live in the area; store your food, beverages, coolers and garbage inside the cabin. Pets are not allowed at Wurtz Cabin. Polebridge Mercantile is located south of Wurtz and has limited supplies. Commercial use of the cabins is prohibited (outfitter guides, groups or organizations with compensated leaders/chaperons). Fee is $65/night.
