Shafer Creek Trail

NATIONAL FOREST TRAIL |

Shafer Creek Trail #226 offers a good opportunity for the day hiker or stock user. The bottom 4 miles offer snags which house bird species such as the American red-crested woodpecker and several types of owls. The upper stretch follows old clear-cuts and natural openings, and is marked with rock cairns (rock stacks) to show the way. People renting the Big Creek Baldy Lookout also hike the upper stretch of the trail.
