Montana Wild

PUBLIC ACCESS SITE, TRAIL, WATCHABLE WILDLIFE, WILDLIFE REFUGE | Helena

Montana WILD is FWP's conservation education center located on the west side of Helena adjacent to popular Spring Meadow Lake state park. The center is open and free to visitors Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors will find an engaging exhibit with interactive activities (like our famous scavenger hunt), a live Montana fish aquarium, an outdoor picnic area, and all the information you need to enjoy Montana’s great outdoors. The center offers regular educational programs on a variety of topics.

Montana WILD also neighbors FWP’s wildlife rehabilitation center. This center is closed to the public as it is mostly a hospital for injured and orphaned animals who will eventually be released. You can, however, view the “ambassador raptors” each morning from about 9-10 a.m. as volunteers walk them around the education center. These are birds of prey that cannot be released and so are now housed at the center and educate the public about their species.
