Celebrate the return of spring with Buzzard Day 2026 in Makoshika State Park—a uniquely Montana festival honoring the turkey vulture with a fun, family-friendly twist. Enjoy scenic 5k and 10k races, cornhole and disc golf doubles tournaments, paleo presentations, a full lineup of family activities, food vendors, and more—all set against the dramatic badlands landscape of eastern Montana.

Friday, June 12th (All events start at the Kiwanis Shelter in Makoshika State Park)
5:00 pm Registration & Packet pickup for races.
6:00 pm Cornhole tournament

Saturday, June 13th (all events start at the Kiwanis Shelter in Makoshika State Park)
6:30 am - 7:00 am Registration cut off. No late entries
7:30 am - Race Start. 10k, 5k. Be on Time! Awards at 9:15 AM
7:30 am - 10:30 am Pancake, Sausage & Egg Breakfast. Free will donation
9:00 am - Disc Golf Doubles Tournament - Bring your partner
9:00 - 3:30 am - Family activities: Bouncy house, mini train, archery, atlatl, archeology exhibit, Mak the T- Rex, Smokey Bear, food vendors, Zoo MT.
9:15 am - Awards
9:30 am - Kids Fun Run - One Mile
10:00 am - Museum of the Rockies Paleo Presentation & Hike with Dr. Scannella.
9:00 pm - (Dusk) Free Movie. Bring chairs or blanket, jackets & bug spray.
