In early March, it’s possible to observe more than 60,000 snow geese and 5,000 swans in a day when they stage at Freezout Lake as part of their annual migration to the Arctic. These birds rest up from a nearly 1,000-mile flight from California, where they rest during the winter months. The best time to view the birds is from sunrise to 10:00 a.m. and from 4:30 p.m. until sunset. Bring binoculars, telescopes, a light lunch and warm clothing to make your bird watching more enjoyable.
