OHV Camping in Montana

From riding through dry riverbeds to climbing mountainous, technical terrain, the OHV trails that snake through Montana’s diverse landscapes are endless. Southeast Montana 

Glendive

Consisting of 2,800 acres, Glendive Short Pines Open OHV Area is a multiuse area with primitive camping and no services. With diverse terrain to explore, riders of all experience levels will love riding through the scenery.

This OHV area offers a hard-packed surface through exciting badlands terrain. While there are no official trails, there are 110 rideable acres to explore. The designated area is located on BLM land and does not have facilities or services available onsite, but primitive camping is allowed.

Pioneer Mountains

Served by the Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway, the Pioneer Mountains offer extensive opportunities for OHVing with plenty of overnight options for all types of campers. This recreation area is home to trails for every kind of rider, as well as a plethora of other outdoor activities for when you need a break from the bike.

Pipestone

Located just north of Interstate 90, this 30,000-acre multiuse travel management area has trails for OHVers and mountain bikers alike. The area features more than 75 miles of developed trails as well as dispersed camping and land for hunting and hiking. When passing through, make sure to visit the “Ringing Rocks,” located within the management area.

Fresno

Just a short drive from Havre, you’ll find this 80-acre OHV area with trails, pits and a dried lake bed that are perfect for adrenaline-pumping fun. The access to the OHV area is only reachable by way of a private road, so remember to be respectful when recreating out here. After a day exploring the terrain, set up camp at the Fresno Reservoir Campground at the south end of the lake.

Offering 40 acres of technical climbs and natural launches, as well as flat and fast terrain for newer riders, Glasgow’s OHV area has something for riders of all skill levels. When you’re ready to switch gears from riding, you can camp in nearby Glasgow’s downtown, and spend some time exploring the U.S.’s official “middle of nowhere.”
