Rodeo Doesn’t Stop in the Snow: Meet Skijoring

Skijoring is an extreme winter sport and high-adrenaline activity that combines skiing, horse racing and rodeo on a racecourse with jumps, gates and rings the skier must navigate for the best team times. Plus, this year, the first-ever pro series will be hosted in Montana.

Gallatin Skijor: A new pro skijoring circuit with a stop in Bozeman, Montana, just-for-fun divisions will race Jan. 17-18 and tour-qualifying divisions will race Jan. 24-25.

Boulder: The fifth annual Skijoring the Big Rock event will be held Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, with competitors gathering in Boulder, Montana, from all over the world to compete in the thrilling winter sport. 

Whitefish: Whitefish Skijoring is a nonprofit organization celebrating the 20th anniversary of its skijoring event Feb. 14-15. This extreme winter sport is a highlight of the Whitefish Winter Carnival. 

Red Lodge: Winter fun in Western style, Red Lodge Skijoring Association hosts the National Finals Skijoring Races March 14-15. Visitors can watch this exciting event at the Home of Champions rodeo grounds.  

Wisdom: Big Hole Valley Skijoring, which hosts this two-day event in Wisdom, Montana, is celebrating its 16th annual race. From Feb. 21 to Feb. 22, spectators can enjoy cowboy fun and an authentic small-town experience.
