Mansion Among Most Distinguished

The Moss Mansion in Billings is included as one of the 10 most distinguished U.S. homes in a new Reader's Digest coffee table book called Great American Homes. Take a tour, and you'll see a mansion and its furnishings nearly unchanged since 1903 when the Preston Boyd Moss family moved in.  To create his lavish home, Moss hired the architect who designed the original Waldorf Astoria and Plaza hotels in New York City. Mahogany, oak and red birch were used extensively in the elegant rooms which feature original furnishings, Oriental carpets and handmade light fixtures.  The Moss Mansion is in such prime condition because it was donated for preservation by Preston Moss' daughter, who had lived there from her birth until her death. Step into the lifestyle of turn-of-the-century society at 914 Division Street in Billings.  Hours for guided tours change seasonally.

The Moss Mansion is one of many historical mansions in Montana open for public tours.  Others include: Marcus Daly Mansion in Hamilton, Conrad Mansion in Kalispell, Montana's Original Governor's Mansion in Helena, Grant-Kohrs Ranch residence in Deer Lodge, Bair Family Museum in Martinsdale, and The Castle in White Sulphur Springs.  The Copper King Mansion in Butte is a bed-and-breakfast.

The Sacajawea Inn in Three Forks was built in 1910 as a railroad hotel and today retains its historical charm as a bed-and-breakfast; 800-821-7326.
