ELKHORN MINE
Glimpse into Montana's rugged and colorful mining past on this easy mountain
bike ride to the historic town of Elkhorn, through the heart of the beautiful
Elkhorn Mountains. The total elevation gain is approximately 1,600 feet; so,
depending on your fitness and motivation, you can tailor the outing by riding
one-way either uphill or downhill (if you have a shuttle), or you can do the
entire round trip of 24 miles. Elkhorn boomed as the result of the discovery of silver in the area in the
1870s. The town is now a state park with interpretive signs highlighting the
historical buildings and sites.
