In preparation for the 62st Montana Legislature which starts Monday, January 3, 2011, we are in the process of updating our email contact list for our weekly electronic notice “News from the Front,” which focuses on legislation pertinent to the tourism and film industry. The “News from the Front” is typically sent every Friday during the legislative session. If you are not interested in receiving this update, please reply to this email.
We are already feeling the rush and excitement that the session brings. As of today, there are 1,850 requests for legislation. We also have many new players as a third of the legislators will be freshmen, which bring both opportunities and challenges. During these economic times, it is critical that we educate and inform these decision makers on the important role that the tourism and film industry play in the overall economic well-being of the State.
Legislators tell us that they listen closest to their own constituents; therefore, it is vital that you take the time to share your ideas and opinions with your local representative. There are several tools available to you to assist in this education effort. General information on the Montana State Legislature can be accessed at http://leg.mt.gov/css/default.asp Located on the Institute for Tourism and Recreation (ITRR) website http://www.itrr.umt.edu/ are the popular “niche news” which provide market specific statistics and the customized “report builder” for local facts and speaking points. And for information on the Montana Office of Tourism’s marketing and promotional efforts, I would recommend our Montana Office of Tourism intranet site, http://www.travelmontana.mt.gov/.
We truly rely on you, our partners, to assist with building awareness of the economic impacts and importance of the tourism and film industry. Together we can help strengthen Montana’s economy.
Happy New Year,
