International Migratory Bird Day is a yearly event conducted to make people aware of birds. IMBD celebrates and brings attention to one of the most important and spectacular events in the Americas - bird migration. Bird Day is celebrated in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. The public can become involved in a variety of events held at the National Bison Range. As part of the celebration, the 19-mile Red Sleep Mountain Drive is opened for the summer season (weather and road conditions permitting).

There are excellent bird watching opportunities along Red Sleep Mountain Drive. This route travels through a variety of habitats and a wide range of birds can be seen, including lazuli buntings, red-breasted nuthatches and even golden eagles.

Events for the day include guided bird walks (registration required), demonstrations and small talks about backyard bird feeding, nest boxes and bird identification. There will be trivia contests and free posters. Call 406/644-2211 for details and registration.
