Red-winged Blackbird
Flitting between cattails and perching on fence posts, red-winged blackbirds are some of the most visible birds in Montana. They are found in marshy areas on the open prairie.
Red-winged Blackbird
Aquila chrysaetos
Only the males are black with red wings; females are brown with black flecks. Both males and females are very territorial, marking their turf with loud clattering songs. They make tough gangs, however, when threatened by predators; they will work together to mob and dive-bomb intruders. They nest near the ground or on the ground next to the water's edge.
