Magpie

Magpies are probably the boldest, noisiest birds in Montana. Found everywhere, they are equally at home stealing dog food from a backyard or pecking away at the carcass of a winter-killed elk. Simply put: they're not picky eaters.

Like other birds in the crow family, magpies make a living scavenging and taking any handout they can get. They're easy to spot in bold black and white; if you look closely you'll also notice they have an almost iridescent green tinge. Don't worry too much about being able to see magpies; if they're around, they'll probably scold you from their treetop perches.
