Enjoy the mountain sides covered in wildflowers and mountain goats in spring; hiking and Glacier National Park in summer; mountain biking and wildlife viewing in autumn and cross-country skiing in winter. Summer guests enjoy guided photo tours and Red Jammer Bus tours of Glacier National Park, hiking, whitewater rafting, horseback riding and the peaceful quiet while sitting upon the hotel porches. Izaak Walton Inn was voted the best cross country ski resort in the Mountain Region, 2003. Snow Country magazine named the Izaak Walton Inn one of the top 10 cross-country ski resorts in the Rockies. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Izaak Walton Inn is an alpine lodge constructed in 1939 by the Great Northern Railroad to house winter snow removal crews. Memorabilia and our great log fireplace remind every guest of the great train era's mystique. It features a spacious lobby with many years of the Great Northern Railway memorabilia featured. Ski from Thanksgiving to April on 33 kilometers of machine-groomed and tracked trails or extensive back country trails. Fifteen kilometers of the trail are rated easiest, 12 are rated more difficult, and 6 kilometers are rated most difficult. Trails are groomed daily and there is a fee to use the trails. Rental equipment is available as well as cross-country ski instruction. The ungroomed trails in and around Glacier National Park provide an opportunity to see mountain goats, majestic mountains and have a true Montana wilderness experience. Relax in an Empire Builder Room with private bath. Enjoy unique lodging in a charming caboose. Experience the quietness of the forest in one of our cabins. The Dining Car Restaurant serves a wide variety of menu favorites, plus daily specials. The Flagstop Bar, game room, gift shop, Finnish sauna and laundry facilities help make your stay more enjoyable. The Inn is located on Highway 2 between West and East Glacier and is served by Amtrak.
