Frosty, Classy
and Still Wild

If you a) love good skiing but hate crowds, b) roll your eyes at pretense but appreciate a well-paired wine, and/or c) have a soft spot for nostalgia, microbrews, or wildlife, then Red Lodge is your kind of place. This mountain hamlet strikes just the right balance between ski-town-chic and mining-town sensibility, the kind of place where you can get your fluff on an uncrowded slope, or in a French puff pastry in town.

There's No Pants Like Snow Pants
spacer
For a winter trip to Red Lodge, you really just need one pair of pants: your snow pants. Swish your way over to Red Lodge Mountain Resort for groomers, chutes, and tree glades, or kick and glide around the Red Lodge Nordic Center. Goretex-y trousers transition effortlessly from the frozen pitches of Spaghetti Falls up East Rosebud to the town's outdoor ice rink, or onto the snowshoe trails of the Custer National Forest. spacer spacer

Buzz spacer National Geographic named Red Lodge one of America's Best "Adventure Towns." spacer Local Scoop spacer Donnie C. highly recommends the Resurrection Doppelbock from Red Lodge Ales and Sam's Taproom.

Roll Out the Red Carpet
If you'd rather put on your party pants, Red Lodge can be refined, too. The Bridge Creek Backcountry Kitchen and Wine Bar (downtown, despite the "backcountry" moniker) expertly pairs wines and bites, while The Pollard's classy historic digs sheltered the likes of Buffalo Bill and Calamity Jane, once upon a time. Then again, luxury is relative. If you're craving spa bathtubs, a traditional fireplace, and a hearty mountain breakfast, Gallagher's Irish Rose Bed & Breakfast is your place.

A Rowdy Past, A Wild Present
Discover Red Lodge's rowdy history at the Carbon County Historical Society and Museum, and its still-untamed side at the Beartooth Nature Center, a sanctuary for animals that can't be reintroduced to the wild. If you're not the museum type, you can still soak up old-timeyness at the Montana Candy Emporium, stocked with old-fashioned rare penny candies and a working nickelodeon, or along the Historic Walking tour. Better yet, take in history sitting down, on one of the comfy couches of the Roman Theatre, open since 1917. spacer
RED LODGE DOWNTOWN
spacer spacer
We've provided the packing list (snow pants, and maybe a back-up pair of snow pants), dumped on the snow, and groomed the slopes and trails for your arrival. All that's left for you to do is get here.
